E3 Is Evolvingand Maybe Not for the Best

The brand circus of the games industry is looking more like a petting zoo. The Entertainment Software Association’s E3 trade show has lost one of its biggest ringmasters: Geoff Keighley, who has hosted one of E3’s marquee events for years, announced today that he won’t attend this summer. Keighley, 40, is one of the biggest names in gaming, contributing to outlets as varied as enthusiast publications like GameSpot to Comcat’s G4 network. Since 2014, he’s produced and hosted The Game Awards, an annual event that was he told The Washington Post that he “doesn’t feel comfortable participating” in the Coliseum show or E3 more broadly.
