Stassi Schroeder laughs off her battle with psoriasis.
On Monday, the Vanderpump Rules star opened up about her chronic skin condition while posting the (above) makeup-free selfie.
While referencing Sunday’s polarizing episode of Game of Thrones, the Bravolebrity added the caption:
“Here’s a little no makeup Monday realness. Pretty sure last night’s GOT episode worsened my psoriasis.”
Around 7.5 million Americans suffer from psoriasis, which is caused by an overactive immune system. Symptoms include flaking, inflammation, and thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin. Treatments include steroid creams, occlusion, light therapy, and oral medications, such as biologics.
In a January 2016 interview with The Daily Dish, the now-30-year-old revealed she is honest about her flawed skin to help others not feel so alone.
“Because I know if I go on another girl’s blog or if I’m looking at her Instagram — I stalk tons of female celebrities, too — I don’t like feeling bad about myself. I don’t like when people pretend everything’s perfect, it’s not… We all need to come down to the same level and teach each other and learn from each other on how to fix those things that we don’t like about ourselves. It makes people happy… And I don’t like when women feel insecure, and I don’t want them to ever look at me and feel that way so that’s why if I need to talk about my psoriasis or the fact that I’m wearing pairs of spanx, fine.”
The reality TV personality has also dished about her experience with going under the knife, including her breast reduction surgery scars from a 2015 procedure.
While referencing a photoshoot where she exposed her marks, she told People in October 2017:
“I was like ‘Don’t edit out my scars.’ They’re awesome. I like being myself and I feel that everyone should embrace themselves… It’s a scar! Scars are pretty! It’s almost like a birthmark or something like that where it’s something to not be ashamed of.’”
Additionally, Schroeder talked about her experience with plastic surgery in her book Next Level Basic: The Definitive Basic Bitch Handbook, released last month. She wrote:
“Let me tell you, it is constantly uncomfortable to feel a heavy book hanging like a pancake on your stomach… When I finally met with a surgeon I told them that I didn’t care about the scars — just butcher me up.”
Stassi always keeps it 100!
